Mallorca Northeast at a glance

The quiet corner of the island

The north-east is the corner of Mallorca furthest from the airport, and that is precisely what keeps it quiet. Around Artà and Capdepera pine forest, pasture and dune beaches alternate: Cala Agulla and Cala Mesquida with their dunes, Cala Torta and Cala Estreta without a single building, the bay of Canyamel beneath Cap Vermell, the caves of Artà in the cliffs. The Llevant peninsula natural park protects the hinterland as far as the bay of Alcúdia.

Villas here sit among the pines above Cala Ratjada and Canyamel, in Costa de los Pinos overlooking the bay, in the small town of Artà with its manor houses and as fincas between Artà, Capdepera and Son Servera. Typical are stone houses with a large garden, a pool and sea views from the roof terrace, alongside modern villas in the settlements by the water. Golfers have four courses within reach: Capdepera, Canyamel, Pula and Son Servera.

From the airport allow 60 to 75 minutes, along the motorway to Manacor and then across country. In return you have the Tuesday market in Artà, fish restaurants at the harbour in Cala Ratjada, walks to the Ermita de Betlem and coves that are almost empty in September. Florian Settele knows these houses in person and can tell you which finca is ten minutes on foot from the cove and which is better for quiet in the hinterland.
