Ibiza Southwest at a glance

The coast facing Es Vedrà

The south-west is the coast you see on Ibiza's postcards. Off Cala d'Hort the rock of Es Vedrà rises almost 400 metres from the sea, spectators gather at the Torre des Savinar watchtower in the evening, and at Es Cubells the coast drops sheer into deep blue. Between them lie Cala Vedella, Cala Carbó, Cala Tarida and Cala Molí, small sandy coves with fish restaurants, and to the south Cala Jondal with its pebbles and beach clubs. Above it all rises Sa Talaia, at 475 metres the highest point on the island.

Many of Ibiza's best-known villas stand here: houses on the slopes above Cala Vedella and Cala Carbó facing Es Vedrà, estates at Es Cubells and Porroig high above the sea, villas at Cala Tarida and Cala Molí close to the water, and fincas around Sant Josep de sa Talaia in the pine forest. Typical are broad terraces, infinity pools that appear to run into the sea and evenings when everyone gathers on the west side of the house.

The airport is 20 to 30 minutes away, Ibiza Town 25 to 30. The programme includes boat trips around Es Vedrà, walks up Sa Talaia or out to the Torre des Savinar, the market at Sant Josep and lunch at Cala Carbó or Cala Jondal. Florian Settele lived in Ibiza for five years and knows the houses on this coast in person; he will tell you where the drive gets steep, which cove can be reached on foot and which villa is sheltered in a westerly wind.
