The family-friendly coast
The east coast around Santa Eulalia is the family-friendly side of Ibiza: a town with a promenade, a marina and restaurants on the water, behind it the Puig de Missa with its white fortified church and the only river in the Balearics, which gives the town its name. To the north the coves follow one another: Es Canar with the Punta Arabí hippy market on Wednesdays, Cala Llenya, Cala Nova, Cala Mastella, Cala Boix and Pou des Lleó, and Sant Carles with the Las Dalias market on Saturdays.
Villas here sit in the hills above Santa Eulalia and Cala Llonga, in Roca Llisa beside the island's only golf course, in Siesta and S'Argamassa near the water, and as fincas in the valleys around Sant Carles and towards Es Figueral. Typical are houses with sea views, a pool and a garden with room for grandparents, parents and children together, as well as fincas with plenty of land in the Morna hills.
The airport is 25 to 35 minutes away, Ibiza Town 15 to 20. Santa Eulalia has shallow, lifeguarded sandy beaches, cycle paths, plenty of restaurants where children are welcome and a calmer rhythm than the south or west. Florian Settele lived in Ibiza for five years and knows the houses on this coast in person; he will tell you which villa is within walking distance of the beach and which finca faces the sunrise.
