Ibiza North at a glance

The quiet north

The north is the quiet part of Ibiza: pine-covered hills running down to the sea, coves at the end of winding roads, villages such as San Juan, Sant Miquel and Sant Vicent where the church stands white on the hill and there is a market on Sundays. Benirrás is known for its drummers at sunset, Portinatx for its three beaches and the Moscarter lighthouse, Cala Xarraca and Cala Xuclar for their clear water. The protected area of Es Amunts keeps the coast free of large-scale building.

Villas in the north stand on the cliffs of Na Xamena above the open sea, in the hills around San Juan and Sant Miquel, above the coves of Portinatx and Cala de Sant Vicent, and as fincas in the valleys towards Sant Llorenç. They are often houses with plenty of land, a pool above the sea, a yoga deck and a view of the sunset, where traffic is soon forgotten. Guests who come to Ibiza for its countryside rather than its clubs are in the right place here.

From the airport allow 35 to 45 minutes; Ibiza Town is a good half hour away. In return you have cliff paths, coves reached on foot, fish restaurants at Port de Sant Miquel and Cala de Sant Vicent, the Can Marçà cave and, at night, stars undimmed by city light. Florian Settele lived in Ibiza for five years and knows these houses in person; he will tell you how steep the drive is and which villa is warm enough for the pool as early as May.
