Airport strike in Mallorca: Is the 2026 Easter vacation in jeopardy?

Update (March 27, 2026, 11:15 AM):
Good news for travelers: The planned strike at Palma de Mallorca Airport has been postponed at short notice, easing concerns just as the Easter travel period begins.

Groundforce strike suspended

The handling company Groundforce has called off its planned strike for now. According to union representatives, the industrial action was suspended due to missing documentation.

The strike had originally been scheduled to begin today, coinciding with the start of peak Easter travel, potentially affecting key airport operations such as baggage handling and ground services.

Agreement with Menzies likely

There are also positive developments regarding Menzies, another major handling provider at the airport.

Following overnight negotiations, a broad agreement has reportedly been reached. A strike is now considered 99% unlikely, although not yet officially ruled out.

Background: dispute over wages and inflation

The planned strikes were triggered by disputes between unions and companies over:

• the correct implementation of wage agreements
• and the payment of agreed inflation compensation

Several unions had announced coordinated strike actions across multiple shifts and days.

Originally planned disruptions

The Groundforce strike was set to:

• take place across multiple daily time slots (morning, afternoon, and night shifts)
• continue indefinitely if no agreement was reached

Menzies had also planned:

• strikes across several key travel days
• with potential extensions into future weekends

What this means for travelers

👉 Airport operations are expected to run normally
👉 Major delays or cancellations are currently unlikely
👉 Easter travel to Mallorca should proceed much smoother than expected

However, travelers are still advised to monitor their flight status, as the situation could change if negotiations break down again.

Conclusion

The situation has significantly improved. The immediate threat of strikes has been removed, allowing travelers to head into the Easter holidays with much greater confidence.
